Are these 6 habits blocking you from true happiness?

There are lots and lots of ways to bring positivity and happiness into our lives. We really should start implementing them more.

But what happens when you hit a block and that happiness seems to be crumbling?

You should take a closer look at the habits that are possibly chasing your happiness away.

Certain things that we do every day, make it harder for us to experience happiness.

You’re probably doing at least of couple of these things and never considered the negative impact that they could be having on your life.

Try to avoid these habits that can rob you of happiness:

1. Unnecessary spending.

Even though it makes you feel good when you are out and about splurging on items you don’t need, it’s unhealthy behaviour and one of the biggest stresses in life is money issues. Happiness is harder to find when you’re up to your eyeballs in debt and is one of the greatest causes of misery.

Clutter is another barrier to happiness. When you spend too much, you will have too much stuff. You will find it’s always in the way and serves as a constant reminder that you spent more than you should have.

Instead, think about the actual reward or feelings you get from spending and then find a less destructive way to accomplish that same feeling.

2. Postponing your life.

We’re always waiting for something to happen before taking action. It could be waiting for the first of the month to start a diet, or winning the lottery to go on holiday. We always have an excuse to wait.

Whatever it is, there will never be a perfect time to take that big step. Manage your circumstances as well as possible and get started today. Little steps are much better than no steps at all.

Time is the one thing none of us can ever get back.

3. Blaming others for your challenges.

When you blame others, you lose control and nothing changes and the cycle begins again.

Other people can’t make you angry, you make yourself angry. You subconsciously choose anger as a reaction to a situation. If you take back the control and actively choose to react differently, then you will find a way to overcome those challenges.

When you take responsibility for what happens to you in your life, you get much better results. Meaning you are inviting happiness back into your life.

Accept the challenge and move forward. And if you’ve been through hell and back, take all that negative, bad energy and use it as a positive power force to overcome your challenges.

Mind-set is everything and once you have that, you can literally achieve anything and everything you want in life.

4. Not staying grounded in the present moment

Most people have a bad habit of dwelling on past mistakes and tragedies and only worry about the future.

The past is over, so leave it there. The good choices you make today, eliminate most future challenges. Focus on making the most of today, and the future will take care of itself.

Try to pay attention to your thoughts for an entire day. Notice how much time you spend thinking about your past or your future. Think about how those thoughts may impact on your happiness and the actions you take.

Try some meditation, you could download a happiness habit app or go for regular mindful walks.

5. Holding a grudge.

If someone has done wrong to you or has hurt you, you might be making a decision to not trust in that person again. However, holding on to the animosity is pointless. You will just make yourself unhappy. Once it’s over, learn what you can from it and keep moving forward.

6. Focusing on your challenges instead of the solutions.

It’s really easy to feel overwhelmed if you focus on all the unpleasant things in your life. Rather than do that, try to spend your time, energy, and focus on finding a way to make things better. You’ll feel better and be much more successful in achieving your goals.

It’s easier to be happy if you stop doing the things that are prevent happiness. We all pick up bad habits along our journeys. The important thing is to recognize them and eliminate them.

Allow yourself to be happy by letting go of your anti-happiness habits. You’ll find that happiness isn’t as challenging to achieve as you first thought.
